Polly Yu
Breastfeeding Counsellor
Hello and welcome!

I’m Polly, a qualified Breastfeeding Counsellor based in Godalming, Surrey.
I initially trained in 2015 as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter after the birth of my second child. I received fantastic support when feeding her was tough and wanted to 'pay the favour forward' in some way.

I loved the work and wanted to do more so went on to train as a Breastfeeding Counsellor. I gained a Certificate in Higher Education as a Birth and Beyond Practitioner (accredited by the University of Worcester) in 2017. I then went on to qualify as a Breastfeeding Counsellor in 2018.

Since qualifying I have worked for a national parenting charity, providing one-to-one support at drop-ins, running antenatal classes and working on their national helpline. Over this time I have had the privilege of helping hundreds of women and their families with feeding their babies and toddlers.
In 2023 I established Polly Yu Infant Feeding, my own small business, with the aim of providing individualised and ongoing feeding support in the comfort of parents' own homes.

I provide expert, evidence-based knowledge and support on breastfeeding, bottle feeding and mixed feeding. Just as importantly, my counselling skills can support you with the emotional side and challenges of infant feeding.

As a mum of two children, I know from my own experience that feeding your baby (in fact, parenting in general!) doesn't always go as planned. This helps me bring compassion and empathy to my work with other parents.

Whatever route your baby’s feeding journey takes, I'm here to support you.

My Approach
To support you, I combine expert feeding knowledge with counselling skills.

Up-to-date, expert knowledge
I share up-to-date, impartial and practical information that will help you meet your feeding goals.

I can also share information to help you understand what is happening during your feeding journey and support your decision-making with current, evidence-based knowledge.
Counselling skills
I understand how daunting it can be for new mums, partners and their families. There is so much conflicting advice and competing expectations, parents can feel pulled in multiple directions.
My counselling training is based on ‘person-centred counselling'. Here, the philosophy is that the person themselves – i.e. you - is best placed to work out what’s right for them. As such, I provide space for you to work through what you want in terms of feeding your baby and give you the information and practical support to take those next steps.
